At last night’s January 2025 Cameron Station Community Association Board Meeting, the Civic Association shared updates on several key projects and initiatives affecting our community. These efforts reflect our ongoing commitment to advocating for Cameron Station’s interests and ensuring that our neighborhood continues to thrive. Here's what we’re working on:

Ben Brenman Bikeshare Station

The Civic Association continues to advocate for the safe and practical placement of a bikeshare station near Ben Brenman Park. We’ve proposed relocating the station from the street (Ben Brenman Drive) to a grassy area near the park’s restrooms to enhance safety and minimize traffic disruptions. After several appeals to the City, we received promising news: the City Manager has directed staff to revisit our proposed location. Stay tuned as we await final updates later this month!  Learn more about Alexandria's Bikeshare Program here.

Duke Street Land Use Plan

As redevelopment planning begins for the Duke Street Corridor, the Civic Association is closely monitoring this initiative to address potential impacts on traffic and density near Cameron Station. With community engagement scheduled to ramp up in the coming months, we’ll ensure your voices are heard and that any redevelopment prioritizes safety, equity, and thoughtful growth.  Find details about the Duke Street Plan here.

Housing 2040 Master Plan

This long-term initiative seeks to address housing needs across Alexandria. Our focus is on monitoring potential zoning changes, such as parking requirements or allowing more dense multifamily housing developments near Cameron Station, that could significantly impact our community. Your input matters, and we’ll keep you informed about opportunities to engage in this critical planning process.  Learn more about the Housing 2040 Plan here.

Virginia Paving Asphalt Plant

The Civic Association played a key role in advocating for the 2027 closure of the Virginia Paving asphalt plant, located near Tucker Elementary School since it had 22 federal, state and local environmental violations. The City has plans for redevelopment of the land into residential uses. We’re staying vigilant to ensure compliance with the special use permit requiring the plant’s operations to cease by January 1, 2027. City staff will provide updates this year on redevelopment progress and next steps.
