Even though schools are opening again and for a lot of people Summer vacation is over, Beatley Library continues to offer fun and educational events and there is something on offer for every age group. September Sewing – Plushie Emojis | Wednesday, September 02, 2026 | 6:00pm - 7:00pm | Age group: 8-18
Smiley faces, grouchy faces, square faces, lopsided faces, and more! Create hand sewn plushie emojis packed with personality. Get creative! All supplies will be provided. Experienced sewers will be on hand to show you the basics of hand sewing, but the design of the face you make will be your own creation. Every other Wednesday in September.
Amplifying Teen Voices with The Chat | Thursday, September 03, 2026 | 6:00pm - 7:30pm | Large Meeting Room | Age group: all ages
Reception, presentation, and community dialogue surrounding Alexandria Youth. Alexandria Library and Youth Leaders have come together over the last six months to discuss what it means to be a teen in Alexandria and how to effect change for this diverse and important age group. Community members and leaders are invited to experience these teens' views first-hand with a multimedia presentation, refreshments, and an opportunity to contribute their own opinions to this teen dialogue project.
What is The CHAT? The CHAT: Change Happens with Alexandria Teens is a conversation series that ran April - June 2026.

The Alexandria-Arlington Regional Gaming Group (AARGGH) invites you to play dice games, card games, tile games, and just about any other kind of tabletop game. Bring some from your own collection, or come without games and play what others bring. If you see one you’d like to try, there’ll be someone eager to teach you.

Alexandria Oddball Cinema – Next Exit | Sunday, September 13, 2026 | 2:00pm - 4:00pm | Large Meeting Room | Age group: adults, seniors
Oddball Cinema brings you all of the weird, eclectic, and lesser-known films you probably never saw in theaters. This story begins with a discovery: the afterlife is real, and it’s neither oblivion nor torment. On the contrary, it seems intriguing and appealing. The scientist who provided the proof wants to do further research, and her clinic offers opportunities for volunteers to expire under her care while she gathers data about the process. Two troubled loners with no connection to each other each decide to participate. Due to unexpected travel complications, they wind up at the same rental-car office and agree to share a car for several days to reach the clinic. The film focuses on the relationship that forms between them – completely dysfunctional at first – as they explore the reasons for their decisions and encounter various friends and strangers along the way. It’s a thought-provoking journey that goes far off the cinematic beaten path.

Learn how to support Afghan refugees with cultural awareness, trauma insight, and inclusive practices to help build a more welcoming community. Presented by the Alexandria Department of Recreation, Parks & Cultural Activities Community Engagement Team.

Did you know that Beatley Friends’ Fall Book Sale is coming soon! And you don’t want to miss it. Friends Members’ only Preview day is Tuesday, September 22nd from 3:00pm – 7:30pm. General Public Sale begins Wednesday, September 23rd at 10:00am and runs through Monday, September 28th. Check Beatley Friends website for more information.
Caroline Boomaars is on a four-year adventure in the US following her husband who works as an engineer officer for the Royal Netherlands Air Force. Very happy to be living in the warm and welcoming community that is Cameron Station, Caroline tries to give back by volunteering for Beatley Library, Friends of Beatley Library and recently joined Cameron Station’s Communications Committee.
