The Compass periodically highlights recaps from recent Cameron Station Community Association Board of Directors (the “Board”) meetings. The Board generally meets on the last Tuesday of every month. Meetings are open to the community to attend and observe, either in person in the Cameron Club or virtually via Zoom. Each meeting includes a Homeowners Forum which is held early in the session and provides any homeowner three minutes to address the Board directly. More information can be found HERE.

Board Meeting Recap

April 30, 2024

The meeting was called to order at 7:01 pm and adjourned at 9:10 pm.

    1. The Board heard from Lt. Lion of the Alexandria Police Department (APD) who reported 75 calls for service in April in Cameron Station, including calls at Ben Brenman Park, which represented approximately 30% of the calls. Lt. Lion reported, among other things, that there were no quality of life calls and that many of the calls related to theft from auto. He reminded residents to ensure that vehicles are locked and valuables are removed to help deter thieves. He also noted that larceny of vehicle parts (particularly wheels and tires on Lexus and Honda vehicles) remains an ongoing issue in the area generally. Although such thefts have not been as much of an issue in Cameron Station specifically, Lt. Lion reminded residents to be vigilant and call APD immediately if any suspicious behavior is observed.
    2. The Board approved a proposal to seal the cement floor under the carpet in the Cameron Club Great Room to address an ongoing issue of water coming up through the cement.
    3. A proposal to replace the carpet in the Cameron Club, as recommended by the Cameron Club Facilities Committee, was approved.
    4. The Board approved the replacement of bench slats for thirteen benches throughout the community, as part of an ongoing project started three years ago.
    5. The Board approved a proposal by Fairfax Paving to do the base asphalt, concrete, and irrigation work for the third and final phase of paving of the private streets of Cameron Station, including replacement of certain stamped asphalt crosswalks currently existing in that section of the community. The work will be completed this summer after the City of Alexandria repaves Cameron Station Boulevard. More details to come, especially for those residents affected by the paving activities.
    6. Management updated the Board regarding community fire hydrants, increased participation in this year’s watershed cleanup event, planned summer paving of Cameron Station Boulevard by the City of Alexandria and the third (and final) phase of Cameron Station’s paving project, closing of the Great Room for the approved sealing and carpeting projects, and the status of the draft annual audit.
    7. The Board discussed the Black Car Airport Service offered by Cameron Station’s shuttle bus operating company and the amount of management’s time to verify residency and contact the company for scheduling the service. The Board agreed to extend the trial period for an additional 30 days pending the creation of an app by the shuttle bus company to better manage.

*The foregoing is a summary of certain actions taken and discussions held at the Board of Directors meeting and is provided for timely information to the community but is neither the entirety, nor the official record of the meeting. The minutes, which will be approved by the Board at its next regularly scheduled meeting, are the only official record of the meeting. The approved minutes of the meeting will be available after the next monthly meeting. Thank you to those who attended and participated.
